Occupational Safety and Health for Technologists Engineers and Managers Global Edition eBook David L Goetsch

This is a pretty good book. Interesting with lots of information. I am just renting it for my college course (Industrial Safety), but I would like to eventually buy the book to keep for reference. It's also a hardback book which is nice. Not one of those spiral loose leaf that so many of my college textbooks are.

Occupational Safety and Health for Technologists Engineers and Managers Global Edition eBook David L Goetsch Reviews

Just what I need it
Great book would recommend
Item as described and great quality
To enforce its standards, OSHA is authorized under the OSH Act to conduct workplace inspections. Every establishment covered by the Act is subject to inspection by OSHA compliance safety and health officers, who are chosen for their knowledge and experience in the occupational safety and health field. Compliance officers are vigorously trained in OSHA standards and in recognition of safety and health hazards. Similarly, states with their own occupational safety and health programs conduct inspections using qualified compliance safety and health officers.

The United States is very different in its approach than that of the EU. The problem comes down to where the liability lies. In the EU (Machinery Directive), the liability lies with the OEM. In the United States (OSH Act), the liability lies with the End User (or the employer).

Under the OSH Act, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace. OSHA's mission is to assure safe and healthful workplaces by setting and enforcing standards, and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance. Employers must comply with all applicable OSHA standards. Employers must also comply with the General Duty Clause of the OSH Act, which requires employers to keep their workplace free of serious recognized hazards.
Both the EU and OSHA enforce their policies in their hierarchy. Please understand that the word "enforcement" most often is similar to the term "law." The U.S. legal model for enforcement however is not very straightforward when compared to the European compliance model within the Machinery Directive.

In each model, the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the European Machinery Directive are the "Law." Since the Machinery Directive lists the standards, a single flow with dual purpose is achieved, driving compliance and enforcement to the OEM. These listed standards are regularly updated and must be re-approved under the Machinery Directive. However, OSHA uses a list of "regulations" created in the early 1970s for enforcement. OSHA, the "Law of the Land," cites these "regulations" and openly enforces compliance to the END USER of machinery and not the supplier. Furthermore, OSHA reserves the "right to reference" consensus standards for enforcement to the END USER. Which actually means that OSHA can pull any standard out of their bag for any situation.

This book gives more clarity towards the OSHA directive and the OSH Act than what I have seen in the past. I would have given it a higher rating if it would have included more of the consensus standards. It needs to be "re-updated", but it is still a great textbook.
This book has been great for my masters level safety class. It's very thorough, and the writer uses a lot of great examples that give you break from reading policy and process. The writer uses language that is easy to understand and explains things without going overboard. I've been able to easily relate a lot of what is in this book to my the field I'm in, which is aviation.
The book is very good, and I first bought the edition. It's not really in the kindle format, but in the digital print format. So to read it you have to enlarge every page, but if you touch the wrong area then it bounces to someplace else, sometimes it doesn't advance to the touch, sometimes it skips back to original size, etc. Not an easy read on the , I actually had to go back and buy the 6th edition hard copy, which as others have said is identical to the 7th edition.
It is a text book about crucial but very complicated and sometimes controversial issues. I'm in Chapter 6 (OSHA Regulations) and so far it seems to be well written, well organized, and relatively easy to follow. But unless you are a safety and health professional (or have aspirations to become one) - it really isn't an enjoyable read.
This is a pretty good book. Interesting with lots of information. I am just renting it for my college course (Industrial Safety), but I would like to eventually buy the book to keep for reference. It's also a hardback book which is nice. Not one of those spiral loose leaf that so many of my college textbooks are.
